Margi Matters is a Brisbane Psychologist in Private Practice
B.A.Psych.DApp.Psych. MAPS AHPRA
Although I have been in private practice as a Brisbane Psychologist for 23 years, my Psychologist career spans 37 years. I’ve enjoyed helping many thousands of people. We have worked together on a huge range of challenges, situations, concerns and goals.
I offer a rich and diverse foundation of therapies, knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques. This allows me to tailor your counselling experience uniquely to you.
From CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ) to Mindfulness and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) of Positive Psychology, I value a holistic approach in my Brisbane Psychologist practice. My framework is to resource you in practical ways with skills, tools, techniques and information.
My experience is extensive and comprehensive. I have provided counselling and therapy through a broad continuum of human experiences and life stages.
A key offering has always been the rewarding world of personal and professional development. Strengthening your self esteem, self acceptance and confidence is life changing. It is one of my favourite focus areas.
Another favourite area is about how to live more consciously. Instead of reacting from the past we respond to what is in front of us.
Other key highly experienced areas include:
- trauma, abuse and neglect in earlier years
- abusive or conflicted, unhappy adult relationships.
- anxiety and depression
- confidence and relationship with yourself
- stress and overwhelm
- emotional suffering and learning how to easily and effectively manage feelings
- grief and loss
- feeling lost and future directions
- life skills like problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution
A core belief that informs my approach is this: our relationship with ourself is the foundation for happiness, fulfillment and success. This relationship is reflected in every aspect of our lives.
Learning how to be true to yourself is a core theme. This begins with self awareness and understanding. The key areas are values, beliefs, filters and needs..
The better you know and understand yourself, then the more choices are available to you. Similarly this self awareness and understanding expands your ‘response repertoire’. In stressful or challenging situations, you can respond rather than react. You can make better decisions. These all open up a happier and easier life.
Work settings range from sexual assault support services, TAFE and University to over two decades now as a Brisbane Psychologist in private practice. I’ve enjoyed formally teaching subjects like counselling, professional development and human behaviour. Additionally, I’ve presented various workshops, seminars and trainings, wrote newspaper columns and was a co-author in the book Spirituality In The Workplace. Training early in Business and Life Coaching has been a great complement to my work as a Brisbane Psychologist.
Compassionate and genuinely caring, my professional style is warm, accepting and friendly. I like you to feel at ease quickly and easily!
I embrace a collaborative approach, working together to bring you to where you want to be.
